RPGs on the big (or little) screen Pt. 2

While I am unsure Dungeons and Dragons on its own would make a very good show since it lacks a definite setting Forgotten Realms could be done. It could be done in a very interesting Babylon 5ish political fashion. "A story about great armies", etc (I can't find the exact quote from Babylon 5's "In the Beginning" but it truly gets the gist of Forgotten Realms at least in 3rd edition. The scale of the Realms can be a truly epic battle for good versus evil with the Harpers taking the role of the Rangers and perhaps the Dales/Cormanthor being akin to Babylon 5 itself. That's how I see doing the Realms at least. I don't think it can be done in a movie form but a long tv series perhaps.

Rifts strikes me as a true war epic where everday is a struggle. Following the neverending struggle to beat back the tides of unending enemy. Possibly dealing with an attempt to close the rifts forever. Another tv show as a movie would struggle to truly encompass the whole thing.

That's all I got for now. I notice my theme seems to be long reaching epic stories rather then short movies...I guess I am not terribly original.

4th Edition

Not quite a double post but my thoughts on the 4th Edition of the Dungeons & Dragons can be found on my regular blog here. Yea, two self references back to back in one sentence, live with it!

RPGs on the big (or little) screen

So this thread got me thinking. What RPGs off my shelf would make good movies or tv shows?

My first thought really was Exalted but as much as I love it I am not sure how easily you could convert that to any other medium. Exalted's larger then life format makes it kind of hard.

Next thought was Blue Planet. BP I think would make a great movie although my personal thought would be do a movie about the natives dealing with humanities return to Poseidon and how the world begins to change. Certainly an emphasis on the amazing location of Poseidon both above and below the waves!

Another great one would be Jovian Chronicles done as a war epic. Not even sure who would be considered the good guys. Possibly some just the UN SolaPol bringing about a united war against the Venus Bank? The possibilities of a Firefly-ish series or a Babylon 5ish series also seem like good fits.
