Thoughts on Gaming I
So want to try and collect some random thoughts on gaming:
First off: gaming quote from Joe's D&D game (Exodia) on Carl's character: "He's emo but when he goes super emo he writes alot of poetry and I have to mock him extra hard."
New books: D&D Rules Compendium. I got it more for insights into the writer's minds then necessarily the rules info although that could be useful at some point. I also snagged a couple sets of the Dungeon Tiles. They actually look pretty cool and seem rather sturdy, I'm impressed by the quality.
I've been paging through Changeling: The Lost of late trying to get a better sense of Changelings. Since I have Vampire and Werewolf laying around as well as the core (which covers mortals) I've been toying more about running a game. More about that below.
Apparently White Wolf may have misprinted a cover. It's ironic because of late they seem to be making a concerted effort of late to improve quality. Their livejournal seems to be a pretty useful tool.
So anyhow, onto gaming thought stuffs: I got the first season of Jericho a few weeks back and tied in with my interest of running a mortals nWoD game set locally. So I wondered: what would happen to most of the nWoD communities in the event of a nuclear attack? This would dramatically shift the balance of power. My first thought was that vampires would lose a lot of power. They generally congregate in large cities which would be prime targets in either a terrorist or strategic nuclear attack. Werewolves would do better being more capable of living off the land and general survivalists. However from my understanding reading WoD: Chicago a fair amount of them do congregate near cities if any to challenge the Pure who are directly opposed to humanity. I'm less familiar with Mages and Prometheans but my guess is that both are generally more individually focused and thus are more spread out. Mages because they would compete with other Mages so it might be as useful to be in less populated areas as populated areas. Prometheans as I understand have a very lousy affect on people so they probably are not in large cities. Changelings strike me as being located all over although they do have freeholds and courts (which I don't know much about) which might be located in large cities if anything to make it easier to find other Changelings.
So I think the conclusions are: werewolves become the big movers and shakers but are pushed closer to their survivalist roots. Vampire society nearly collapses. Mage organizations may fragment some but they'll continue on and rebuild. Prometheans clout in the world stay about the same although the radiation might increase their numbers. Changelings numbers probably decrease because as the world changes (drastically) they have a harder time finding their way home.
Overall supernatural creatures now have an opportunity to act more openly when the mortal populate is fragmented and disorganized. Plus its a more violent world and people disappearing will be more common allowing easier hunting for the predators.
Anyhow that's it for now. nWoD and nuclear weapons.
